Summer flow…

I am on a quest to live a more analog life.  Many of you can still remember the days before cell phones… before the internet…. Life may not have been perfect, but it was so much simpler.

Summer is a time to give ourselves a break, even for a little while.  I recently listened to someone speak about living in flow with the Seasons, and I think there is so much wisdom to that.

The cultural pressure to “be productive” and “crush your goals”, seems to be subsiding - at least a little bit -  but the effects of that trend and the habits created in that mode can still be hiding out. I really love the notion of stepping back and creating systems and strategies that are aligned with how we are built… to be in sync with Nature.

When we try to go-go-go and be productive without any kind of a break, we eventually burn out.  If we observe how nature works and rests in each season, we can imagine how we might emulate those patterns and find a healthier way to live.

So I’ll share Ange Peters’ (a.k.a. Hol-Fit) take on this.  She is an expert at creating systems and strategies for living a balanced life, and this strategy is something she talked about in the most recent quarterly session of The Beautiful Life Lab.

In order to create and do and give, we have to have seasons of refilling and recharging.  As we allow ourselves to rest in a “Flow” season, our body, mind and soul have the opportunity to be nurtured and refilled… we allow space for new, creative ideas to drop in and time to let those ideas grow, so that we can take action on them in the “Go” season.

It's also worth noting that we aren't talking about running at break-neck speeds during "GO Seasons" and stopping everything during "FLOW Seasons".  Rather, it's about where and how we are focusing our energies, mind-set and heart-set in each season. And adjusting our activities accordingly where it makes sense.

Here’s what that might look like…

What do you think of this idea of restructuring some things in your life this way?

I’m definitely giving it a try.  July and August will find me spending time resting, ‘refilling the creative well’, and preparing for GO Season in the most analog ways I can muster. I hope you find a way to do some of this too.
